# Enable multi-currency settlement

Offer your connected accounts the ability to receive funds in multiple currencies.
Available in: EU, GB, CH, NO, LI, SG, HK, AU, US
If you’re a direct Stripe Dashboard user, [configure multi-currency settlement](https://docs.stripe.com/payouts/multi-currency-settlement.md) capabilities on your own account.

Multi-currency settlement allows your connected accounts to maintain balances and make payouts in currencies other than their primary currency. Connected accounts can hold and payout funds in up to 18 supported currencies needed to pay suppliers, process refunds, and so on, without having to convert funds.

## Enable multi-currency settlement

Enable multi-currency settlement for your connected accounts by turning on **Enable accounts to settle funds and receive payouts in multiple currencies** on the [Connect payouts settings page](https://dashboard.stripe.com/settings/connect/payouts/multicurrency-settlement) of the Dashboard. An account must be in the same region as your platform to use it, but doesn’t necessarily need to be in the same country. For example, if your platform is in Australia, the connected account must also be in Australia, but if your platform is in the EEA, the connected account can be in any country in the EEA.

While your platform has multi-currency settlement enabled, eligible connected accounts can configure settlement in all [currencies that are supported in their region](https://docs.stripe.com/payouts/multi-currency-settlement.md#multicurrency-settlement-fees).

> #### Accounts with full Dashboard access
>
> Connected accounts with access to the full Stripe Dashboard have automatic access to multi-currency settlement, and can manage their own settlement currencies independently. Your platform setting doesn’t affect them.

While access to multi-currency settlement is enabled, a connected account can enable settlement in a non-primary currency by adding a balance or external account in that currency:

- An account with access to the full Stripe Dashboard or Express Dashboard can add a non-primary currency balance by clicking **Add settlement currency** on the [Balances page](https://dashboard.stripe.com/balance/overview).
- An account can add a non-primary currency external account in the following ways:
  - During onboarding
  - In their Dashboard [Payout settings](https://dashboard.stripe.com/settings/payouts)
  - In the [Account Management embedded component](https://docs.stripe.com/connect/supported-embedded-components/account-management.md)

For connected accounts without access to a Stripe-hosted Dashboard, the platform can enable a non-primary settlement currency in the following ways:

- Add a non-primary currency external account using the API by [creating an ExternalBankAccount object](https://docs.stripe.com/api/external_account_bank_accounts/create.md).
- Add a non-primary currency external account from the [Connected account details page](https://dashboard.stripe.com/test/connect/accounts/overview).

## Disable multi-currency settlement

If you no longer want to allow your connected accounts to enable multiple settlement currencies, turn off **Enable accounts to settle funds and receive payouts in multiple currencies** on the [Connect payouts settings page](https://dashboard.stripe.com/settings/connect/payouts/multicurrency-settlement). Disabling the feature only prevents accounts from enabling new currencies; it doesn’t stop connected accounts from continuing to use currencies that they’ve already enabled.

## Add external accounts

After you enable multi-currency settlement, your connected accounts can add a new settlement currency external account anywhere they can update their payout methods, including Dashboard and Onboarding interfaces.

After your connected account has an external account in a non-primary currency, charges presented in that currency accrue toward that currency’s balance. Your connected accounts can pay out their multi-currency balances in the same way as a primary currency balance. However, some supported currencies are subject to a minimum payout amount and settlement fee. For more details, see [Pricing](https://docs.stripe.com/connect/multi-currency-settlement.md#pricing).

All supported settlement currencies appear in Stripe Dashboards. For more details about pricing and availability, see [Pricing](https://docs.stripe.com/connect/multi-currency-settlement.md#pricing).

To learn more about processing charges in multiple currencies with Connect, see [Working with multiple currencies](https://docs.stripe.com/connect/currencies.md).

## Pricing

When funds settle to your connected account in a currency other than the primary currency of your Stripe account country, Stripe applies [processing fees](https://docs.stripe.com/payments/currencies/settlement-payouts.md) in that currency.

Stripe charges the applicable multi-currency settlement fee when funds settle in a non-primary currency. In the Dashboard and reporting, it appears as a `multi-currency settlement` fee. The fee depends on the currency and the connected account’s country, not the bank account country, and doesn’t include a fixed minimum fee. See our [full list of pricing and minimum payout amounts](https://docs.stripe.com/payouts/multi-currency-settlement.md#multicurrency-settlement-fees).

For connected accounts where your platform pays Stripe fees, Stripe deducts your connected accounts’ multi-currency settlement fees from your platform balance in the non-primary currency. For example, if your connected account settles funds in USD, we charge the fee to your platform balance in USD when possible. If your platform account doesn’t support the currency, Stripe converts the fee to your default currency and deducts it from your primary currency’s balance. See [conversion on Stripe fees](https://docs.stripe.com/payments/currencies/settlement-payouts.md#conversion-stripe-fees) for more details.

If your connected account pays their own fees, Stripe deducts the multi-currency settlement fee from the connected account’s balance instead. See [Fee behavior on connected accounts](https://docs.stripe.com/connect/direct-charges-fee-payer-behavior.md) for more information.
