Features

Stripe uses Authorization Boost to improve your acceptance rates on card-not-present payments. Acceptance rate refers to how often card payments are approved when customers try to make a purchase. The higher your rate, the more sales you complete. Learn more about how Authorization Boost can improve your acceptance.

How it works

Authorization Boost is a paid product that includes the following payments optimization features:

Feature Description

Adaptive Acceptance

Adaptive Acceptance uses machine learning to optimize payment requests, including by reformatting those requests based on what card issuers prefer. Stripe can make these changes before sending a payment or after a payment is declined. For example, Stripe selectively adjusts and reattempts declined payments in real-time, which helps recover up to 15% of declines that are retried.

Additionally, if you are an IC+ business using Adaptive Acceptance within Authorization Boost, Stripe can help reduce your network costs without affecting your acceptance rate. For example, Stripe’s excessive retry prevention limits the retrying of payments that incur penalty scheme fees and have a low likelihood of success.

Network tokensNetwork tokens are payment credentials that serve as more secure substitutes for card numbers. Network tokens help you process payments with the most up-to-date credentials, even if the underlying card data changes. Stripe integrates with major card networks to tokenize your cards. Learn more about network tokens.

Card account updater

Card numbers and expiration dates regularly change, so outdated card information is a common source of declines for online businesses. Stripe integrates with major card networks to update saved card payment information automatically to help you access the latest card details.

To maximize acceptance rates, Stripe maintains a PCI-compliant vault of primary account numbers (PANs) and selects whether to use a network token or a PAN for a given transaction. In this way, network tokens and card account updater in combination can help protect your revenue.
