Stripe Reader T600 is an Android-based smart reader made specifically for countertop and pole-mount use. [Stripe Terminal connects to the reader](https://docs.stripe.com/terminal/payments/connect-reader.md?reader-type=internet) over the [internet](https://support.stripe.com/questions/terminal-server-driven-integration), LAN (SDK), or [handoff mode](https://docs.stripe.com/terminal/features/apps-on-devices/build.md#discover-and-connect-a-reader).

This reader is compatible with the following integrations:

- Server-driven
- JavaScript SDK
- iOS SDK (v5.1.0 or later)
- Android SDK (v4.7.0 or later)
- React Native SDK (v0.0.1-beta.29 or later)

## Turn the reader on and off

Plug the USB-C cable into the device and connect it to the power supply or POS register. We recommend using the included 20W power adapter. If you use your own power source, make sure it can provide at least 20W of power. The reader boots automatically when you apply power.

Use the power button on the back of the device to turn the screen on or off. Long-press the power button for 1 second to restart the reader.

To turn the device off, disconnect it from USB power.

## Apps on Devices

For Apps on Devices integrations, follow the [standard Apps on Devices guidance](https://docs.stripe.com/terminal/features/apps-on-devices/overview.md). If you’re using a devkit, see [T-bridge](https://docs.stripe.com/terminal/payments/stripe-reader-t600/accessories.md#t-bridge).

To make sure your application runs in landscape mode, set `android:screenOrientation="nosensor"` in AndroidManifest.xml.

## Access settings

To open the settings menu, swipe right from the left edge of the reader screen. Tap **Settings** and enter the admin passcode `07139` to open **Admin options**. From here, you can update your network settings, generate a pairing code for device registration, change the reader language, and adjust the display. To close the settings menu, tap **Back** in the top left corner.

## Display timeout

The **Display timeout** setting controls whether the reader turns off its display after a period of inactivity while plugged in. To update this value, go to the [settings](https://docs.stripe.com/terminal/payments/setup-reader/stripe-reader-t600.md#settings), select **Appearance**, then select a new value from the **Display timeout** dropdown. The available values are 15 minutes, 1 hour, 6 hours, 12 hours, and never. The display turns on again after a device interaction occurs, such as touching the screen, or when the reader enters the payment flow.

You can also adjust the display **Brightness** on the same screen.

## Connect the reader to the internet

Because the Stripe Reader T600 is a smart reader, its reader software communicates directly with Stripe. Your point of sale application communicates with the reader through either a LAN (using a Terminal SDK) or the internet (using the [server-driven integration](https://docs.stripe.com/terminal/payments/setup-integration.md?terminal-sdk-platform=server-driven)). When communicating with the reader through the LAN, the reader must connect to the same local network as your point of sale application. If you’re running into issues connecting your reader to the internet, follow the [troubleshooting steps](https://docs.stripe.com/terminal/readers/stripe-reader-t600.md#troubleshooting) to diagnose the issue.

### Wi-Fi

To connect to Wi-Fi or switch networks, go to [settings](https://docs.stripe.com/terminal/payments/setup-reader/stripe-reader-t600.md#settings), then select **Wi-Fi settings** to choose the network and connect. Attempting to join a new network disconnects the reader from any existing wireless connection. Learn more about our [network requirements](https://docs.stripe.com/terminal/network-requirements.md) and how to [configure advanced network settings](https://support.stripe.com/questions/bbpos-wisepos-e-stripe-reader-s700-advanced-network-settings) for supported Wi-Fi networks.

### Ethernet and USB peripherals

Ethernet connectivity requires an optional Reader Hub, which provides wired 10/100 Ethernet connectivity. The hub also provides two USB-A ports to connect peripherals such as a barcode scanner and printer. You can purchase the hub separately in the [Stripe Dashboard](https://dashboard.stripe.com/terminal/shop).

To set up the hub:

1. Connect the Ethernet cable from your hub to your router.
2. Connect the hub to power through the built-in USB-C cable. We recommend using the power adapter included with your Stripe Reader T600 to make sure the appropriate power is provided to the hub to power the reader and attached peripherals.
3. Connect the hub to the reader when both cables are in place.

To confirm the reader’s Ethernet connectivity, check that the Ethernet icon is visible in the status bar.

The reader obtains an IP address using DHCP. As soon as the network cable is plugged in, the reader attempts to establish communication with Stripe.

For more information about these accessories, see [Stripe Reader T600 accessories](https://docs.stripe.com/terminal/payments/stripe-reader-t600/accessories.md).

## Network priority

The Stripe Reader T600 prioritizes connecting through Ethernet if possible. Even if you previously configured the reader for WiFi, it switches to an Ethernet connection when you connect it to a Reader Hub with a plugged-in Ethernet cable. If you disconnect the hub, the reader switches back to the WiFi connection.

If you connect the reader to a hub without an Ethernet cable plugged in, it uses WiFi. Regardless of the active connection, you can still connect to WiFi and manage networks on the device.

## Change the UI appearance

Stripe Reader T600 supports a light theme and a dark theme for the on-reader UI.
