Accept a payment using Samsung Pay in South Korea

Caution

Stripe can automatically present the relevant payment methods to your customers by evaluating currency, payment method restrictions, and other parameters.

  • Follow the Accept a payment guide to build a Checkout integration that uses dynamic payment methods.
  • If you don’t want to use dynamic payment methods, follow the steps below to manually configure the payment methods in your Checkout integration.

Samsung Pay allows South Korea-based customers to pay using this local payment method.

When a customer makes a payment, we redirect them to our local processor partner to authenticate and authorise the payment. After the customer authorises the payment, we redirect them back to your site.

Determine compatibility

A Checkout Session must satisfy all the following conditions to support South Korean payment methods:

  • Prices for all line items must be expressed in Korean won (currency code krw).
  • The minimum amount accepted is 100 KRW, and the maximum amount accepted is 2,000,000 KRW.

Accept a Samsung Pay payment

Enable Samsung Pay by making the following updates to your integration.

When creating a Checkout Session, you must do the following:

  • Add samsung_pay to the list of payment_method_types.
  • Make sure all line_items use the krw currency.

Test your integration with Samsung Pay

While testing your Checkout integration, select Samsung Pay and click Pay. This redirects you to a Stripe-hosted page where you have the choice to authorise or fail the payment. If you authorise the payment, the PaymentIntent switches from requires_action to succeeded. Failing the test payment switches the PaymentIntent from requires_action to requires_payment_method.
