Mastercard Installments is a program that allows merchants to offer installment payment options to customers, leveraging their existing Mastercard relationship:
- Merchants are automatically enrolled to accept Mastercard Installments when they start accepting Mastercard payments.
- Customers who have a Mastercard Installments virtual card from their bank can pay in 4 interest-free installments during checkout, just like a regular Mastercard transaction.
- The same fee structure applies to Mastercard Installments as regular Mastercard transactions.
- Surcharging for Mastercard Installments is prohibited.
Prohibited business categories
In addition to the categories of businesses restricted from using Stripe, the following categories are prohibited from accepting a Mastercard Installments virtual card.
- Money transfer
- Funding transactions
- Quasi cash
- Merchandise and services: Customer financial institution
- Payment transaction
- MoneySend
Recurring payments
Mastercard Installments doesn’t support recurring payments such as subscriptions. If a buyer attempts to purchase a recurring product or service with this card, it will be declined.
Disable Mastercard Installments
If you don’t want to accept Mastercard Installments payments either:
- Create a support inquiry at Stripe Support using the subject “MC Installments Opt Out”
- Navigate to this link directly to request “opting out”.
This process might take 1-3 days to complete. Opting out of Mastercard Installments also opts you out of Apple Pay Later.
