# Convert funds

Instantly convert between currencies on Stripe.

Instant currency conversion lets you convert balances that you accrue through [multi-currency settlement](https://docs.stripe.com/payouts/multi-currency-settlement.md) or by funding your [financial account](https://docs.stripe.com/treasury.md). You can convert balances in the Dashboard or programmatically using the private-preview API and the funds become instantly available in your balance.

## Convert currencies instantly 

#### Dashboard

To instantly convert currencies in the Dashboard:

1. Go to the [Treasury](https://dashboard.stripe.com/treasury) page, then click **Convert**.
2. On the conversion details page, select the currencies to convert and enter the amount.
3. Click **Submit**. You’ll see the funds instantly available in your balance.

#### API [Private preview]

Converting currencies using the API is in [private preview](https://docs.stripe.com/release-phases.md). Sign in to Stripe to request access.

You can convert funds up to the daily per-currency limit shown in the preceding table. The limit depends on whether you convert funds in your payment balance or in your [financial account](https://docs.stripe.com/treasury.md).

## Available balances for instant currency conversion

Instant currency conversion works with available balances (funds that have [settled into your Stripe balance](https://docs.stripe.com/payments/balances.md)). Daily automatic payouts affect the amount available for conversion. To make sure funds remain available, you can switch from daily automatic payouts to manual payouts. To keep your daily payout schedule, consider [setting a minimum balance](https://docs.stripe.com/payouts/minimum-balances-for-automatic-payouts.md) on your [Payout settings](https://dashboard.stripe.com/settings/payouts) page.

## Instant currency conversion for Connect

If your connected accounts accrue multi-currency balances through [multi-currency settlement](https://docs.stripe.com/connect/multi-currency-settlement.md), you can enable them to convert between their balances using the private preview API. You can allow connected accounts to receive, settle, and convert currencies through the [Express Dashboard](https://docs.stripe.com/connect/express-dashboard.md#balance) or [Balances embedded component](https://docs.stripe.com/connect/supported-embedded-components/balances.md).

## Convert between stablecoin and fiat balances 

To convert between stablecoin and a fiat currency, your financial account must support holding balances in both currencies.

Converting between USD and a stablecoin balance (OUSD or USDC) doesn’t involve foreign exchange, because both OUSD and USDC are pegged to the US dollar. Any other pair involves a currency conversion at the current exchange rate.

Your financial account holds only one stablecoin as its storage currency at a time, so you can’t use this flow to convert directly between an OUSD balance and a USDC balance. If you fund or pay out using a different stablecoin than your storage currency, Stripe converts it automatically at the time of transfer. To convert between a stablecoin balance and a fiat balance in the Dashboard:

1. Go to the [Treasury](https://dashboard.stripe.com/treasury) page, then click **Convert**.
2. Select the balances to convert between and enter the amount.
3. Click **Submit**.
