# Events

Set up your application to receive and act on events from Stripe using webhook endpoints and cloud services.

Use thin events for new integrations. Thin events are lightweight, unversioned, and let you fetch the most up-to-date resource state. Use snapshot events if a third-party integration requires the full event payload, or if you need to access changed attributes on a resource without making an additional API call.

When activity occurs in your Stripe account (such as a successful payment, a new subscription, or a dispute) Stripe generates an event. You configure *event destinations* (A tool to send events to your application via webhook or directly to your cloud infrastructure) listen for specific events and direct them in real time to [your application](https://docs.stripe.com/webhooks.md), [Amazon EventBridge](https://docs.stripe.com/event-destinations/eventbridge.md), or [Azure Event Grid](https://docs.stripe.com/event-destinations/eventgrid.md). Handler functions can then respond immediately.

You can direct events to [webhook endpoints](https://docs.stripe.com/webhooks.md), [Amazon EventBridge](https://docs.stripe.com/event-destinations/eventbridge.md), or [Azure Event Grid](https://docs.stripe.com/event-destinations/eventgrid.md). For new integrations, we recommend [thin events](https://docs.stripe.com/events/how-events-work.md#thin-events), which are lightweight, unversioned, and fully typed in the Stripe SDKs.
