# Manage W-8 and W-9 form requests

Monitor the status of forms you requested from your connected accounts.

After you [enable](https://docs.stripe.com/connect/enable-w8-w9-tax-forms.md) and configure W-8 and W-9 form collection from your connected accounts, you can review their status in the [Tax forms](https://dashboard.stripe.com/connect/taxes/w8_w9_forms) page. You can also withdraw form requests and download submitted forms they submit.

## Form statuses

You can review the most recent form request status of all your connected accounts, or use the tabs to filter by a specific status.

| Tab | Description |
| --- | --- |
| **Needs attention** | Stripe reviewed the submitted form and asked the connected account to submit it again. The form’s details list the **Validation issues**. |
| **Requested** | Stripe requested a form from the connected account, and the connected account hasn’t submitted it yet. |
| **Submitted** | A US connected account submitted a W-9, and Stripe is waiting for the TIN matching result, or the name and TIN don’t match IRS records. A mismatch shows **Name and tax ID need review** under **Needs attention** in the form’s details, but the form stays on this tab. See [How Stripe verifies the form](https://docs.stripe.com/connect/w8-w9-tax-forms/connected-accounts.md#verification). |
| **Accepted** | Stripe accepted the form. Stripe accepts W-8 forms, and W-9 forms from connected accounts outside the US, when the connected account submits them. Stripe accepts a W-9 from a US connected account when TIN matching confirms its name and TIN. |
| **Not requested** | You haven’t requested a form from the connected account, or you withdrew the request. |

Statuses and tab counts can take a few minutes to update after a change. The page shows 20 connected accounts at a time.

## Find connected accounts

Click **Filter** to narrow the list. You can filter by country, connected account ID, name, email address, form type, the date the form was last updated, and the date the connected account was created.

The **Form type** column shows which form the connected account submitted: **W-9**, **W-8 Substitute**, **W-8BEN**, or **W-8BEN-E**.

## View a connected account’s form

Click a connected account to open its details. The details show:

- The form status, form type, and when the form was last updated.
- When you requested the form and when the connected account submitted it.
- The country and signature date on the form and, for a W-9, the tax classification.
- Any **Validation issues**: **Name and tax ID need review**, **Address or tax residency needs review**, **Tax classification needs review**, **Supporting documentation needs review**, **Account and form information need review**, or **Form information needs review**.

## Withdraw forms

1. Select individual connected accounts from the **All**, **Requested**, or **Needs attention** tabs. You can also select the checkbox in the table header to select all the connected accounts of that status shown on the current page.
2. Click **Manage requests**.
3. Click **Withdraw forms**.
4. Repeat for connected accounts on another page or a different status tab, if necessary.

Stripe immediately closes the open request, and the connected account moves to **Not requested**. Submitted and accepted forms aren’t affected.

To withdraw requests from more connected accounts at a time, click **Import**, choose **Withdraw**, and upload a CSV file with a `connected_account_id` column. Leave any enforcement columns blank. For the file format, see [Import a CSV file](https://docs.stripe.com/connect/enable-w8-w9-tax-forms.md#import-a-csv-file).

## Download a submitted form

[Eligible team members](https://docs.stripe.com/connect/w8-w9-tax-forms.md#roles) can download a form that’s on the **Needs attention**, **Submitted**, or **Accepted** tab as a PDF:

1. Click the connected account.
2. Click **Download form**.

You must turn on two-step authentication in your [user settings](https://dashboard.stripe.com/settings/user) to download forms. In live mode, Stripe asks you to verify your identity before the download starts.

> #### Protect downloaded forms and exports
>
> The PDF includes the connected account’s full TIN, and exported CSV files include personal details such as names and addresses. Store and share these files securely.

## Export form data

Export the details of your connected accounts’ latest forms to a CSV file, one form type at a time:

1. On the **All** tab, apply any applicable filters.
2. Click **Export**, then choose the form type.
3. Choose the connected account creation **Date range** from **Today** up to **All** to include every connected account.
4. Choose the **Time zone** for the date range and the **Columns** to include. **Default** includes the most common columns, and **All columns** includes every column.
5. Click **Export**.

The file downloads when it’s ready. While Stripe prepares the file, you can choose to get an email with a download link instead. Each row contains one connected account’s latest form, including its status, signature date, and the details that the form collects.

You must turn on two-step authentication to export forms. Export menu files don’t appear on the **Exports & imports** tab.

## Track request jobs

The **Exports & imports** tab lists the request and withdrawal jobs in the current mode, both from selected connected accounts and from CSV files. Each row shows the action, where the job started, its status, and when its files expire. Click a job to see how many connected accounts it changed, skipped, or failed, and to download its report.

| Status | Description |
| --- | --- |
| **Validating** | Stripe is checking the uploaded CSV file. |
| **In progress** | Stripe is updating the connected accounts. |
| **Completed** | Stripe processed every connected account in the job. |
| **Partially succeeded** | Stripe processed the job, but some connected accounts failed. The report lists them. |
| **Failed** | Stripe couldn’t process the job, or stopped it before it finished. The job’s details show the reason. Connected accounts that Stripe changed before it stopped stay changed. |

Click **Download CSV** to download a job’s report. For the report’s columns, see [Validation report](https://docs.stripe.com/connect/enable-w8-w9-tax-forms.md#validation-report) and [Result report](https://docs.stripe.com/connect/enable-w8-w9-tax-forms.md#result-report). Reports and uploaded files expire 400 days after the job starts.

The tab refreshes while a job runs. Stripe doesn’t email you when a job finishes. If a job doesn’t finish within two hours, it fails with **The job timed out.**
