# View onboarding insights

Use the Connect compliance page to understand your onboarding performance.

Use the onboarding insights section of the [Connect compliance page](https://dashboard.stripe.com/connect/compliance) to understand how connected accounts move through your onboarding funnel, identify drop-off points, and monitor conversion rates over time.

## Before you begin

Onboarding insights are available only to Connect platforms that use [hosted onboarding](https://docs.stripe.com/connect/hosted-onboarding.md) or [embedded onboarding](https://docs.stripe.com/connect/supported-embedded-components/account-onboarding.md), and only for connected accounts with platform controls enabled. Accounts onboarded entirely through the API or with platform controls disabled aren’t included in onboarding insights metrics. If your platform uses a combination of API and [hosted onboarding](https://docs.stripe.com/connect/hosted-onboarding.md) or [embedded onboarding](https://docs.stripe.com/connect/supported-embedded-components/account-onboarding.md), the onboarding insights metrics only show connected accounts that onboarded using [hosted onboarding](https://docs.stripe.com/connect/hosted-onboarding.md) or [embedded onboarding](https://docs.stripe.com/connect/supported-embedded-components/account-onboarding.md).

## Understand conversion metrics

The conversion metrics section shows three summary rates for how connected accounts move through onboarding:

- **Submitted within 24 hours**: The percentage of accounts that submitted the onboarding application within 24 hours of starting onboarding.
- **Enabled within 7 days**: The percentage of accounts that had all initially requested capabilities, excluding local payment methods, enabled within 7 days of starting onboarding.
- **First charge within 14 days**: The percentage of accounts that processed a first successful card payment or received a first payout within 14 days of starting onboarding.

## Understand the onboarding funnel

The onboarding funnel chart shows how connected accounts progress through key onboarding steps. Each bar shows the number of accounts that reached that step and the number that dropped off from the previous step.

The onboarding funnel includes the following steps:

| Step | Definition |
| --- | --- |
| **Onboarding start** | The first time a connected account interacts with Stripe onboarding. For [hosted onboarding](https://docs.stripe.com/connect/hosted-onboarding.md), this step occurs when the account clicks the account link. For [embedded onboarding](https://docs.stripe.com/connect/supported-embedded-components/account-onboarding.md), this step occurs when the onboarding component renders. |
| **Account authentication** | The connected account completes authentication with Stripe. This step includes setting up email, password, SMS verification, or two-factor authentication, depending on the account configuration. If your platform doesn’t rely on Stripe authentication, this step isn’t included in the funnel. |
| **Requirements collection** | The connected account provides required personal and business information, as well as external account information. This step includes business type, business details, personal details, management and ownership information, and public details. Bank external account collection can be optional for some platforms, which can affect the funnel. |
| **Account submission** | The connected account submits the onboarding application based on an explicit submission event. |
| **Account enablement** | Stripe activates all capabilities requested during onboarding, excluding [local payment methods](https://docs.stripe.com/connect/manage-payment-methods.md). |
| **First payment or payout** | The connected account processes a first successful card payment or receives a first payout. |

### Non-sequential funnel

Connected accounts don’t always complete every funnel step in the same order. As a result, the number of accounts might not decrease steadily between steps. This can happen for the following reasons:

- **Prefilled information**: Connected accounts skip parts of requirements collection when your platform provides the information before onboarding.
- **Optional external account collection**: Connected accounts skip external account collection when your platform doesn’t require it during onboarding.
- **Non-blocking requirements**: Some incomplete requirements don’t prevent connected accounts from progressing to later steps.
- **No Stripe authentication**: Connected accounts that don’t use Stripe authentication skip the account authentication step.
- **Different account populations**: Onboarding characteristics can differ across groups of accounts on your platform, such as by [onboarding type or account configuration](https://docs.stripe.com/connect/dashboard/onboarding-insights.md#filters).
- **Onboarding changes over time**: Your platform might have changed its onboarding configuration during the selected date range.
- **Partial capability enablement**: A connected account can process its first card payment or receive its first payout before Stripe enables other initially requested capabilities.

Using [filters](https://docs.stripe.com/connect/dashboard/onboarding-insights.md#filters) can produce a more sequential funnel. If your platform changed its onboarding integration, select a date range entirely before or after the change. To compare groups with different onboarding experiences, filter for connected accounts with similar onboarding characteristics.

### Filters

Use filters to narrow the onboarding funnel results to specific connected account segments. Filter options are dynamic and show only values with sufficient data.

- **Date range**: Select a predefined range or a custom range. This filter includes only connected accounts that started onboarding during this date range. Data is available starting on April 4, 2026.
- **Account country**: Filter by connected account country.
- **Business type**: Filter by connected account business type.
- **Onboarding type**: Filter by hosted or embedded onboarding.

## Data freshness

Onboarding insights data refreshes daily. Data is available starting on April 4, 2026. The most recent available data is typically from two days earlier.
