# Adds the ability to pause and resume Subscriptions on demand ## What’s new Adds the ability to [pause](https://docs.stripe.com/api/subscriptions/pause.md?api-version=2026-09-30.endive) a [Subscription](https://docs.stripe.com/api/subscriptions.md?api-version=2026-09-30.endive). Paused subscriptions have a `paused` status and include the [status_details](https://docs.stripe.com/api/subscriptions/object.md?api-version=2026-09-30.endive#subscription_object-status_details) property. Also adds: - The [payment_behavior](https://docs.stripe.com/api/subscriptions/resume.md?api-version=2026-09-30.endive#resume_subscription-payment_behavior) field when [resuming a subscription](https://docs.stripe.com/api/subscriptions/resume.md?api-version=2026-09-30.endive), which controls whether it should resume when payment is attempted, or only after payment succeeds. - The [pause_schedules](https://docs.stripe.com/api/subscription_schedules/object.md?api-version=2026-09-30.endive#subscription_schedule_object-pause_schedules) field on [Subscription Schedules](https://docs.stripe.com/api/subscription_schedules/object.md?api-version=2026-09-30.endive), which configure when and how a subscription pauses and optionally resumes. ## Impact To pause a subscription, enable [flexible billing mode](https://docs.stripe.com/billing/subscriptions/billing-mode.md). Pausing a subscription stops invoice generation. This differs from [pausing payment collection](https://docs.stripe.com/billing/subscriptions/pause-payment.md), which continues to generate invoices but pauses payment collection. Update your integration to handle the `paused` status and [status_details](https://docs.stripe.com/api/subscriptions/object.md?api-version=2026-09-30.endive#subscription_object-status_details) property. Listen for [customer.subscription.paused](https://docs.stripe.com/api/events/types.md?api-version=2026-09-30.endive#event_types-customer.subscription.paused) and [customer.subscription.resumed](https://docs.stripe.com/api/events/types.md?api-version=2026-09-30.endive#event_types-customer.subscription.resumed) events to revoke and restore service access.
