# Adds detailed status to explain why an Invoice is uncollectable

## What’s new

Adds a new [status_details](https://docs.stripe.com/api/invoices/object.md?api-version=2026-09-30.endive) property to [Invoices](https://docs.stripe.com/api/invoices/object.md?api-version=2026-09-30.endive). When an invoice has a [status](https://docs.stripe.com/api/invoices/object.md?api-version=2026-09-30.endive#invoice_object-status) of `uncollectible` and a supported reason is available, the [status_details.uncollectible.reason](https://docs.stripe.com/api/invoices/object.md?api-version=2026-09-30.endive#invoice_object-status_details-uncollectible-reason) property indicates why the invoice became uncollectible. This open enum has the following values:

- `max_payment_attempts`: The maximum number of payment attempts was reached.
- `payment_not_received`: Payment wasn’t received for the invoice.
- `subscription_canceled`: The subscription associated with the invoice was canceled.
- `subscription_paused`: The subscription associated with the invoice had `pause_collection` set.
- `user_forgiven`: The invoice was marked uncollectible by the user.

We only include `status_details` when the invoice’s `status` is `uncollectible`. The new `status_details` property is separate from the existing [status_transitions](https://docs.stripe.com/api/invoices/object.md?api-version=2026-09-30.endive#invoice_object-status_transitions) property, which contains timestamps at which the invoice status was updated.

## Impact

Eligible uncollectible invoices include the new `status_details` property in the response. You can use `status_details.uncollectible.reason` to programmatically distinguish between the different reasons an invoice became uncollectible.
