# Updates Financial Connections Session defaults

## What’s new

Standardizes [Financial Connections Session](https://docs.stripe.com/api/financial_connections/sessions.md?api-version=2026-09-30.endive) defaults across account holder types.

- The [limits[accounts]](https://docs.stripe.com/api/financial_connections/sessions/create.md?api-version=2026-09-30.endive#financial_connections_create_session-limits-accounts) parameter defaults to no maximum on the number of accounts an end user can link.
- The [manual_entry[mode]](https://docs.stripe.com/api/financial_connections/sessions/create.md?api-version=2026-09-30.endive#financial_connections_create_session-manual_entry-mode) parameter defaults to `disabled`.
- The [filters[require_payment_method_support]](https://docs.stripe.com/api/financial_connections/sessions/create.md?api-version=2026-09-30.endive#financial_connections_create_session-filters-require_payment_method_support) parameter defaults to `none`, so accounts aren’t required to support payments or to successfully retrieve account and routing numbers.
- The [filters[account_subcategories]](https://docs.stripe.com/api/financial_connections/sessions/create.md?api-version=2026-09-30.endive#financial_connections_create_session-filters-account_subcategories) parameter defaults to all supported subcategories: `checking`, `savings`, `mortgage`, `line_of_credit`, and `credit_card`.
- The [filters[country]](https://docs.stripe.com/api/financial_connections/sessions/create.md?api-version=2026-09-30.endive#financial_connections_create_session-filters-country) parameter defaults to the requesting merchant’s country when supported, and otherwise defaults to the US.

## Why is this a breaking change?

Previously, some Sessions used account holder-specific defaults when optional configuration parameters were omitted. For example, Sessions created for connected accounts could default to collecting one checking or savings account, requiring payment method support, enabling automatic manual entry, and using the connected account’s country.

After upgrading, the same request can create a Session that allows more accounts and account types, no longer guarantees that linked accounts support payments, disables manual entry, or uses a different default country.

## Impact

If your integration relies on the previous implicit behavior, specify the configuration you require when creating the Session. For example, explicitly set `limits[accounts]`, `filters[account_subcategories]`, `filters[require_payment_method_support]`, `filters[country]`, and `manual_entry[mode]` instead of relying on their defaults.

Set `filters[require_payment_method_support]` to `all` or `at_least_one` if your integration requires payment-eligible accounts and successful account and routing number retrieval. If you set `manual_entry[mode]` to `automatic`, you must also configure payment method support. Automatic manual entry isn’t supported when `filters[require_payment_method_support]` is `none`.
