# Adds support for Data Share Only for 3D Secure authentication

## What’s new

Adds `data_share_only` as a possible 3D Secure (3DS) result in the [three_d_secure.result](https://docs.stripe.com/api/charges/object.md?api-version=2026-09-30.endive#charge_object-payment_method_details-card-three_d_secure-result) enum. This is included in the [payment_method_details](https://docs.stripe.com/api/charges/object.md?api-version=2026-09-30.endive#charge_object-payment_method_details) hash for [Charge](https://docs.stripe.com/api/charges/object.md?api-version=2026-09-30.endive), [SetupAttempt](https://docs.stripe.com/api/setup_attempts/object.md?api-version=2026-09-30.endive), [PaymentRecord](https://docs.stripe.com/api/payment-record/object.md?api-version=2026-09-30.endive), and [PaymentAttemptRecord](https://docs.stripe.com/api/payment-attempt-record/object.md?api-version=2026-09-30.endive) resources.

This value indicates an issuer performed 3DS authentication using [Data Share Only](https://docs.stripe.com/payments/3d-secure/data-only.md) mode, a flow where cardholder data is shared with the issuer to allow them to make better authorization decisions.

Charge events (such as [charge.succeeded](https://docs.stripe.com/api/events/types.md?api-version=2026-09-30.endive&#event_types-charge.succeeded) and [charge.captured](https://docs.stripe.com/api/events/types.md?api-version=2026-09-30.endive&#event_types-charge.captured)) now include the `three_d_secure` object for Data Share Only transactions.

## Why is this a breaking change?

This change adds a new enum value to `three_d_secure.result`. This change affects behavior that depends on the existence of `three_d_secure` or the value of `three_d_secure.result`.

## Impact

Previously, Data Share Only 3DS authentications were indistinguishable from charges with no 3DS because the `three_d_secure` property was `null` in both cases. With this change, you can identify which transactions used [Data Share Only](https://docs.stripe.com/payments/3d-secure/data-only.md).

If your integration checks `three_d_secure.result` property, you can update it to handle the new `data_share_only` value. Only Data Share Only transactions after September 30, 2026 are exposed to this change.
